Bujinkan Mizumi Dojo
Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, formerly known as Bujinkan Ninpo Taijutsu, is a Japanese martial arts system based on nine ancient schools of combat and strategy. The schools of the Bujinkan date back over 900 years. Six of the schools are Samurai Jiu-Jitsu schools and three are Ninjutsu schools. The Bujinkan is headed by Soke Masaaki Hatsumi, founder of the Bujinkan organization and the inheritor of these ancient schools of budo.
Over the years, the training protocols of the Bujinkan have shifted towards kata based learning and less focused on spontaneous use of the Ryu-ha principles and strategies as it was shown in the 1980s. Having been exposed to both methods of training, Sensei Williams incorporates both of these teaching and learning styles into his Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu classes. He teaches the Ninjutsu (ninja) aspects which include stealth, exotic weaponry, and what is referred to as Gotonpo, or ways to blend with nature for concealment. His class is a mix of the old practice methods and the new. Sensei Williams is one of the very few people, if not the only person, that was trained and ranked by Dr. Glenn J. Morris in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. He is an authorized instructor through the Hombu Dojo in Japan and is currently the only instructor in the state of South Carolina. He has been training in the Bujinkan since 1985 and has been an instructor since 1996.
Training includes the use of unarmed combat methods derived from the nine schools, along with an array of associated weapons. Training is conducted indoors, as well as outdoors, to capture the feeling of working with nature.
Many of the ‘old school’ Bujinkan instructors have passed away, leaving him as one of a handful of people who are still sharing the knowledge from the early days of Bujinkan in the United States.
Training is self-paced, and focuses on personal development through the ancient martial skills for creating a more balanced and healthy lifestyle.
