Discover the path to self-mastery through the traditions of Hoshin.
Honor. Courage. Respect.
On April 1st, 2006, the martial arts world lost one of its most innovative and influential figures—Dr. Glenn J. Morris, the founder of Hoshinroshiryu (later known as Hoshinbudoryu). His profound contributions continue to resonate, living on through the hearts and minds of his students and the many readers inspired by his books and teachings. Dr. Morris was renowned for bridging Eastern esoteric concepts with Western perspectives, making advanced martial practices accessible to a broader audience.
"Enlightenment is a biological process."
Dr. Morris began his martial arts journey at a young age, exploring various disciplines that would later shape his unique system. He trained extensively in Ninjutsu under Masaaki Hatsumi, Isshinryu Karate under Sherman Harrill, and studied Wu Shu with master Leo Sebregst. These diverse influences contributed to the eclectic nature of Hoshinjutsu.
In the early 1980s, he introduced Hoshinjutsu as an elective gym course at Hillsdale College in Michigan. What began as a physical education class soon evolved into a comprehensive system integrating physical techniques, mental discipline, and personal development. Dr. Morris presented Eastern concepts from a Western viewpoint, focusing on practical self-defense and holistic growth.
In 1985, Dr. Morris experienced a profound spiritual and energetic awakening that would forever change the course of Hoshin Budo. Through intensive experimentation with Chinese Chi Kung, the Godai (five elements), and Hindu chakra systems, he achieved a breakthrough in consciousness that deepened his understanding of the martial arts beyond mere physical technique.
This transformative experience led him to develop a systematic approach to help others achieve similar breakthroughs in just 12 to 14 months—a process that traditionally took decades. His method combined Eastern practices with Western psychological understanding, making advanced spiritual concepts accessible to modern practitioners.
His seminal work that details the journey of consciousness transformation through martial arts training. This book provides invaluable insights into the integration of physical technique, energy work, and spiritual development.
